When I booked my airfare to Minnesota, it seemed like no big deal to change planes in Cleveland. That was three weeks ago. This afternoon as I stood in the security line in West Palm, the guy behind me said, "Glad I'm not going to Cleveland--they're getting 10" to 20" of snow." I'm thinking this guy is pulling my leg, until I checked the Weather Channel monitor in the concourse. Great. Not only did I stand in a 20-minute security line with 100+ spring breakers, I'm headed to the only airport in the U.S. that isn't going to be open.
The flight to Cleveland was pretty uneventful, until we were supposed to land and the captain announced we were going to hold, since the airport was closed to plow the runways. Good news was three flights ahead of us had to go to Detroit for fuel, so we were first to land when the airport re-opened.
Most of the flights going east were canceled, so I was thankful my three hour layover ended with me getting out of Cleveland. Our taxi out to the runway was like four-wheeling in a jet as the plane cut through all kinds of snow on the tarmac. Definitely a new traveling experience! And I'm glad my return trip is through Detroit on Sunday.
Have a good weekend--
