I arrived in Rochester, New York yesterday for the PGA Senior Championship. Today we had a women's golf clinic sponsored by the Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA)for 40 women at Genesee Valley Golf Course. Our special guest clinician was LPGA Hall of Fame and World Golf Hall of Fame member, Carol Mann, who is in town to receive the 2008 PGA First Lady of Golf award.
The day began with a luncheon, then we ventured out in the 48 degree weather to hold a two hour clinic. (Reminded me of my collegiate coaching days with lousy spring and fall weather.) It was amazing to watch Carol teach and to see firsthand what makes her such a great instructor--while being able to assist with teaching the clinic. She is so deserving of the First Lady of Golf award for all she has done for women and the game of golf as a player, teacher, broadcaster and all her work to ensure the passage of Title IX.
This evening we went to dinner and had time to hear more of Carol's stories about life on the LPGA tour and all she continues to do in golf. While at dinner, I received a call from Kelsey and Brooke that the Northfield Girls' Golf team won the Missota Conference golf tournament for the first time in 21 years! The team beat Red Wing by just a few shots to take conference. Kelsey and Brooke each shot 85 and both earned All-Conference honors! Way to go Raiders!
