Road trip to the "west coast"

I just returned home from my road trip to the "west coast." For those of you thinking I went to the 'real' west coast (as in California, Oregon or Washington) read on...the first thing I learned about Florida geography is that I live on the 'east coast' and my friends in Ft. Meyers, Bradenton, etc. live on the 'west coast.' Anyway I spent the weekend in Ft. Meyers visiting JoAnne Henry, who happened to have Katee and Roger Gilmer also as house guests.

We played golf at San Carlos Golf Club on Saturday morning before heading to Bonita Bills after golf. JoAnne refers to this as "Adult Day Care with beer and wine." When I walked in, I was the youngest person there by at least 20 years! This is the hang-out for retired Floridians and Snowbirds. They sit and mingle while listening to "Peppermint Patty" sing. The first people I spotted were Sue and Virgil Wood who were there from Northfield. After we talked I saw Ken and Judy Eul (David's aunt and uncle from Rosemount!) Small world! We had dinner on the water at Parrot Key on Ft. Meyers Beach before heading home for the night.

Sunday we played at Estero Country Club in a Rally For The Cure event. I played with Vicki Austad and with our handicap, in addition to our playing partners, we shot 23 under par. (One of our playing partners with a 22 handicap shot a career round of 83!) Yours truly added four natural birdies, so that helped. We finished in fourth place in the championship flight--good for a cool $20! (Hey it is a charity event after all!) After dinner Sunday night at ECC, I headed back to West Palm. It was an easy 2 1/2 hour drive, so I promised JoAnne I would return for more golf another weekend.

Now it's time to gear up for another week at work. I'm busy working on an executive women's golf school we're hosting the end of March at the PGA Golf Club, so that occupies much of my time, in addition to the National Promotions on the website, promotional materials, and ads for various magazines. Guess it beats those sub-zero temps and wind chills in Minnesota!
